The Doors of the Ancients is an edge-of-your-seat, Sci-Fi paranormal adventure series, taking the reader from the mystery of the Haunted Cottage in the mist-shrouded forest town of Shadow Creek, through ancient portals that lead to the horrors and wonders of parallel worlds, and across the paths of memorable characters, vicious creatures, and ancient cities.
Book 1 Shadow Creek
Maybe there's something in the water... or maybe it's just that secrets and fear bring out the worst in people, but the residents of the small forest town of Shadow Creek are not quite normal.
Following a tragic accident that claims his mother's life, Jake Catalani, a timid 15-year-old now stuck with only his abusive stepfather, is forced to move to Shadow Creek and into a secluded house that terrifies the locals and has been dubbed by them as The Haunted Cottage. The mysterious cottage, Jake finds, was once owned by his estranged biological father, and he soon acquires messages left behind by his father that lead him to question every horrible thing he has been told about his father, and hidden in the messages are clues that begin to unearth the true mystery of the cottage. But Jake is not supposed to discover the secret of the portals until he is an adult, until he is strong enough, mature enough, and truly ready to handle the inevitable dangers and the extraordinary powers that can be gained.
Only a handful of people have ever known about the Doors of the Ancients, and discovering these portals to different and often dangerous worlds is more of a curse than a blessing. But is Jake desperate enough to overcome his fear and be free from the tyranny of his stepfather and the madness of Shadow Creek? Is he desperate enough to believe in the messages left behind by his father, a man who the locals believe to be a demon? Could a timid boy, with only the reluctant help a few chosen classmates and a cowardly dog, be reckless enough to unravel the secrets of Shadow Creek?
Shadow Creek The Doors of the Ancients Book 1 eBook Joe Adamo
Let me start off by saying this... I am not much into fiction or novels, and mainly read self-help and educational books. I recently stumbled upon this gem of a book and pleasantly discovered that it is psychological, educational and there is a very nice arch of evolution, which the main character goes through. Joe Adamo's writing is very engaging, vivid and a very nice balance between the fantasy world and real life. Without giving away the story or talking about the main characters, I would say that in my experience, it was very personal because I was able to relate to this book in many ways, particulary the human level. I guess this is why it grabbed me and carried me all the way through. Lastly, I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fiction/action/adventure, that is somehow rooted in reality. Although this can be a nice read for all age groups, I fear that if you lack substantial life experience, you will not be able to relate to the multi-dimensional layers and hidden messages in this book.Product details

Shadow Creek The Doors of the Ancients Book 1 eBook Joe Adamo Reviews
I love reading YA series and this one didn't disappoint! I really like the main character, Jake. The kid sure has some obstacles to face and conquer. There are some pretty shady characters in this story....Looking forward to what happens in the next book!
American high school angst rubbish. The rest of the world does not relate to this stuff. I lasted abourt 50 pages and gave up.
The writer details surroundings & people so vividly, you almost feel as if you're there. I can't wait to read the next book!
I was hooked right away. I love the characters and my heart goes out to Jake. So many things going on at once but it all flows together so well. Going to get the 2nd book right now. A must read
The synopsis was intriguing, the first few pages were engaging and after the second chapter I was completely hooked.
For me its a good sign that I'm really pissed-off at the end of a book because A) its over and B) I have to wait months or sometimes years for the follow-up in a series or for the author's next creation. Mr. Adamo's brilliant debut release fell into this scenario - I was livid because I wanted more, and I cannot wait for the second book to be available. I'm happy that this is the first in a series so in the future I may be treated to a few more pleasurable hours of reading about Jake, Jazmin, Steve and Shadow Creek's other coloful denizens.
I feel compelled to emulate Jake's tenacity and "bring it on" attitude Mr. Adamo, more please!!
Adamo appears to be new to the writing scene, but for his first venture into story telling, he has done a great job. He has an easy, clear writing style and a gift for narrative that keeps the reader moving along at a steady clip and easily fills your mind with visual imagery. Now, the books is/are definitely geared more towards the tween audience, but that didn't stop me from reading it in the least.
With this first novel, in what I believe is a trilogy, all of the characters are well established the the scenes are firmly planted into our imagination. There are only two elements to the story that bothered me 1. The shear amount of physical abuse that the main character endures The reader sort of ends up with a mental picture of the hero starting to look like Rocky Balboa (after the fight) and it gets you wondering how he continues to function from day-to-day. I suppose this creates a strong empathy for the character and really gets you to hate his adversaries, but it seemed a little excessive to me in the respect that it becomes unbelievable. 2. We don't get to what "The Doors of the Ancients" is or are until half way through the book.
Once I found out what the doorways were, I found it highly imaginative and original and found it hard to put down the book (). The doorways somewhat reminded me of the doorways in King's Dark Tower series, but Mr. Adamo's use of them is fantastic and highly creative. While the book had a satisfying ending to some degree (we get to see the end of a character that is rather unexpected yet deeply satisfying), there is no doubt that one must read on to the next book. It took me less than 6 hours to decide to buy book two in the series. I really want to know more about the doorways and what it will ultimately become of our hero.
If the tween fantasy genre is your cup of tea, this book makes for a corking good read. I would certainly have no issues with my teens reading it. Give it a try. It is well worth the money. I am just starting book 2, "Abduction" which takes off like a race horse, so I will review that one too as soon as I am done.
This work, the first in a series, introduces the reader to a small town, a young man, coming of age, and a series of unexplainable discoveries and mysteries.
Joe Adamo, writes with the best of the contemporary modern writers. The young Jake, is a well written, expertly described, character that one is almost immediately interested in knowing. He’s fragile and timid in the face of authority, but at the same time, willing to put his heart and loyalty out. He struggles against those he cares for and those that are suppose be there to support him. This coupled with Mr. Adamo’s flowing narrative makes this work a pleasure to read. I, like a previous reviewer feel confident in comparing it to other modern writers (The Twilight Series, Potter books, even some King works like The Talisman or the gunslinger series) and one is driven at some points in the work to ‘turn the pages’ into the wee hours of the night.
This work, in my opinion, seems to be written for slightly younger crowd than myself, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t appeal, as it still deals with complex emotions and carries with it an interesting story arc, such that it was hard to put down.
Although, not exactly satisfied with the ending, I wonder if that was Mr. Adamo’s intention, that is to leave me craving more. And more I do in fact want. I can’t wait until the further books are released so that I can travel to Shadow Creek and beyond.
